Summer slides right into fall in the Florida panhandle. The weather is perfect–not too hot, not too cold, and the ocean water feels like a bath having been warmed by the sun all season. Since it doesn’t get chilly until after October, you have plenty of time to enjoy late summer and fall in Destin, Florida. Keep reading for more ways to enjoy area attractions like a local this fall!
Take the Family on a Fishing Trip
Whether you’re looking to brush up on your fishing skills or go sightseeing for dolphins, one of the most popular fall activities in Destin is renting a charter boat. There are plenty of options to choose from, whether it’s a pontoon boat or luxury vessel. That brings us to our favorite luxury vessel, Navigator! A 50-foot Viking Convertible, Navigator is equipped for everything from competitive fishing to a family fun day at Crab Island. Explore the Gulf Coast and help celebrate what makes our city special while out at sea!
Make Learning Fun
Even if you’re taking a much-deserved break from work or school, it’s a privilege to keep learning. You’ll learn about new places wherever you’re visiting on vacation. And now, you can also stop by the Emerald Coast Science Center to continue learning and make even more discoveries! Located in Fort Walton Beach, which is closer to our Okaloosa Island properties, the Emerald Coast Science Center hosts events, programs, and workshops all focused on science-centric topics. Plus, you and the kids won’t want to miss their awesome exhibits featuring exotic reptiles and other adorable animals!
Relax and Unwind on the Coast
Take a vacation from your vacation at The Spa at Silver Shells! Sometimes we get so caught up in the experiences that we don’t take time to relax while we’re on vacay. Spend part of your time with us focusing on yourself. There are plenty of services available that will bring you peace while visiting the Emerald Coast. Whether it’s a quick facial between family activities or a day spent with your partner getting a couple’s massage or mani-pedis. The Spa is the perfect addition to finding bliss this fall.
Catch Up on Some Local History
Brush up on the local history and culture of your vacation destination! The Destin Fishing Museum encapsulates everything about Destin since its founding. You’ll learn not only about the history of Destin, or “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village,” but you’ll also get to see original artwork and fishing accessories used and developed in the area throughout the years.
Celebrate The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village
Destin’s hallmark fall event and city tradition since 1948, the Destin Fishing Rodeo, is what draws crowds from all over. You can embark on your own fishing adventures as a part of the Destin Fishing Rodeo (secure your ship for the rodeo today!) or enjoy watching the daily weigh-ins at AJ’s Seafood & Oyster Bar on the Destin Harbor. During the whole month of October, the Destin Fishing Rodeo rules the city. There won’t be a local restaurant in town that isn’t celebrating or serving fresh, local fish!
Grab a Bite of the Local Catch
Almost every Destin restaurant uses fresh, local ingredients all year. But during the Destin Fishing Rodeo in the fall, area restaurants really start to highlight our wonderful seafood straight out of the gulf. Stop by for a bite at one of our local favs, like The Palms Bistro featuring The Coffeehouse and Good Vibes Bar, Fudpuckers, or Boshamps, for the best seafood you’ll ever feast on!
Get Up Close and Personal with the Local Wildlife
Maybe a sunset dolphin cruise or charter fishing doesn’t get you as close to all the Gulf Coast wildlife as you wish. Visit the Gulfarium on Okaloosa Island for your exotic sea animal fix. You can visit up close and hands-on with dolphins, sting rays, seals, and more! Take your family and friends to learn and become inspired to respect and preserve wildlife in the panhandle, and ultimately, around the world.
