Our cruise departed at 11:00 AM from HarborWalk Village, just behind Margaritaville. Boarding was simple, and before we knew it, we were leaving the docks and making our way through Destin Harbor.
Cruising past HarborWalk Village gave us a wonderful view of the waterfront, with fishing boats, private yachts, and charter boats heading out for a day on the Gulf. The atmosphere was lively and gave us a glimpse into Destin's reputation as the World's Luckiest Fishing Village.
As we made our way through East Pass, our captain shared that there hadn't been any dolphin sightings in the Gulf that morning. Rather than continue searching there, he decided to take us under the Destin Bridge and into Choctawhatchee Bay, where he had a better feeling we'd find them.
Along the way, we cruised past Crab Island, one of Destin's most popular attractions. It was fun seeing all the boats anchored together and the floating restaurants serving visitors enjoying the crystal clear water.
The farther we traveled into the bay, the more dolphins began to appear.
Before long, we spotted a pod of five dolphins swimming and jumping through the water together. It was incredible to watch them play so close to the boat.
One of the most memorable moments came when a dolphin swam right alongside us, keeping pace with the boat for several seconds. It felt like it was putting on a show just for us.
Our captain did an excellent job announcing every sighting and helping everyone know exactly where to look. Thanks to his experience, we were able to see at least 10 dolphins throughout the cruise. It was truly a special experience that everyone onboard enjoyed.
